- I have a fairly large number of grievances.
I find the necessity to purchase locks an unnecessary exploitation. In fact, when I first went onto the storage unit it was already locked with the Public storage’s lock and we had to jostle with it till we realised and had to go back all the way to call the manager. The locks can easily be part of the rental.
I find the entry/exit rules weird. First, it’s not possible to exit the facility after 6pm — which makes it impossible to move in after 5pm (working hours). However, in the specific facility I was moving into, the manager leaves at 5pm (which we were never told). It makes it impossible to move after 4 pm, and we had to return twice without actually being able to move our stuff. I had to pay quite a lot additionally for renting the trucks twice.
The third time, when we did come in the morning to move. We found the manager absent and gone for the next hour. How understaffed is the facility? Unable to acquire a moving dolly, we had to wait before moving out stuff again.
In my storage unit itself, the lights were not functional and it was pain to move in our stuff where we had to use mobile flashlights just to put out stuff in. We also found a weird plastic bag just sitting on top of the unit, raising questions about the hygiene.
The facility also did not ensure mandatory masking on entry to premise. It was uncomfortable being in proximity of unmasked tenants (again understaffed).
Overall, I was fairly dissatisfied with the moving experience and ended up costing way more money than the prices displayed online.

- The reservation process and notifications prior to move-in all went well. However, when filling out the paperwork he insisted that we had to carry the insurance even though we confirmed that our homeowners insurance covers it and I had the declaration page. He said that we had to pay for insurance on the unit or couldn't rent. So, we agreed since we had to move in that day. Then that night I read the fine print in the contract and you absolutely do NOT have to buy their insurance or any other. I called to get the insurance removed and the first month insurance charge credited back to my account and was told that they wouldn't be able to credit me and can only change the account in person. I live in another state and was only in town to move into storage for one day.
Also, when we saw the 5x10 unit we knew we didn't need that much space so requested a 5x5 unit instead which were available. However, the same guy said that it wouldn't make sense because the rate we got on the 5x10 unit was less than the 5x5 rate so we stayed with that unit and moved in. Then I go home that night and search online and find that this was also not true. There were 5x5 units available to rent at that facility for $18 less per month.
Finally, they really push buying moving supplies in the store. He really pushed buying more than 10 boxes to get the quantity discount with the assurance that you could return them for a full refund on anything we didn't end up using. So we did, but guess what? We didn't need half of the boxes and went in to return them and get a refund and got attitude and the total hassle. I had to be very insistant just to get my refund on unused boxes.
All around bad taste in my mouth and now I am having to spend endless hours calling the local storage facility, Public Storage central customer service, etc. just to get their employee errors corrected and set my account straight.

- We're an existing client of Public Storage at this location. Recently we would like to rent one more unit. Laura was extremely helpful in assisting me to acquire the unit. In addition, we also needed to do some admin changes on our existing units and Laura did an awesome job in preparing all the paperwork and explaining the purpose of each one. No doubt that I would give a 5 star for Laura's service at Public Storage at this location!!

Find a Storage Unit For Rent Near You
Coyote Storage 611 Blanchard Rd, Coyote - Los Altos, CA 95013 408-463-0700
Finding and renting trusted self-storage facilities in Los Altos, California is now easier through MoversCorp. Compare options and rent storage near you with just a few clicks. We provide the convenience of reserving affordable storage units online or by phone. No credit card or long-term contract is required. Consider us as your solution for finding and reserving a storage facility throughout California, including options for mini storage units and storage containers to suit a variety of needs. The cheapest storage unit in your area may not always be the best choice. Please consider the following factors when selecting a storage unit in Los Altos, California.
- Monthly rates are based on features such as 24/7 access, climate control, facility security, location, and overall demand in your area.
- For household goods, the most common storage unit sizes are 5x5, 5x10, 10x10, and 10X15. For added flexibility, some companies also offer portable mini storage units for rent for temporary residential use that can be delivered to your property or hauled by you for on-site storage.
- Many facilities offer larger unit sizes for commercial and business storage, like 10x20 or 10x30. These sizes are ideal for storing office equipment, inventory, or business records. These sizes can also accommodate vehicles, making them a great option for car storage.
- Most storage facilities require insurance for stored items. If you don’t have your own policy, you may need to buy one through the facility, adding about $15 to $50 to your storage rental cost each month. Some places also charge a refundable deposit or an administrative fee when you move in. Always ask about these costs and refund conditions before signing a lease.
- Storage facilities with flexible leases allow you to rent on a month-to-month basis. Be aware that storage unit price increases are common. Many customers say their rates go up after a few months, sometimes more than once a year. Since storage rentals are month-to-month, facilities can raise prices with proper notice. Ask about potential rate increases before committing to a unit.
- The monthly rent will also depend on whether a facility offers climate-controlled units or only drive-up units. Climate-controlled units cost more than drive-up units or storage containers.
- Most locations have digital keypad access, which provides you with your personal access code. Check with the office for availability.
- Consider drive-up access for easier loading and unloading, especially for heavy or bulky items.
- Some facilities may provide extra room or rental space for public use, such as areas for organizing or handling your stored items. Contact the property manager to confirm availability.
- Check for online reviews and recommendations. Local experts can guide renters to facilities that stay available and maintain reliable service during peak demand.
- Ask the office about the preventive security measures for safeguarding the location. Facilities with experienced staff often maintain stronger daily oversight by monitoring access logs and responding quickly to tenant concerns.
Are there free storage deals in Los Altos, California?
Many companies offer promotions for new customers, such as a free first month. Search by your zip code or distance to locate cheap storage units that come with the first month free and other decent storage discounts. Take advantage of specials if you're a first-time renter.
How do I find the cheapest storage in Los Altos?
You can sort by price, from low to high, to find affordable options on our website. Away from the city center, you have a better chance of finding inexpensive storage rental solutions. The facility's size and amenities affect the monthly price.
What is the difference between an indoor and outdoor unit?
You have easy access to your unit when it is an outdoor unit. If the unit is indoors, you must first enter the building to get to it.
What is the difference between office hours and gate hours?
The property's operating hours are during office hours. The store manager will be on duty to help you with your questions. If you have questions or need help outside these hours, look up the property's phone number to contact the leasing office directly. The gate hours determine when you can enter the property and use your unit.
