- I would give Prime Storage negative stars if I could!
When this business was locally-owned (King Storage), it offered stable and reasonable rates, 24-hour access (without additional fees), friendly ownership and staff, and no insurance requirement.
With the corporate takeover (Prime Storage) it has been nothing but a nightmare! Within a few months my unit rate went up by almost 50%. Access hours became limited. I submitted my homeowners insurance information in-person, yet I was still billed for personal property insurance. Now they are ratcheting up some of their fees to exorbitant rates:
$50 No Registration/Insurance (Vehicle)
$50 Lock Cut Fee
$35 Electricity Fee
$125 Dumpster Fee
$30/mo 24 Hour Access
I cringe every time I receive an email from Prime Storage. What next? It has been an absolutely horrible experience renting from corporate America.

- I had excellent customer service, I moved across country and the team at BlueBird in Dover was amazing, a move like that is very stressful but moving into this facility took the stress off at final stage of the move. They helped me coordinate with my movers and were very friendly while doing so!
When I got to facility to move in, they provided all the info I needed, the facility is super clean, lots of carts to bring in and carry out your stuff.
Definitely would recommend this place!

- The facility looks brand new with everything in good repair and very clean. Pricing is good. The kiosk makes conducting business incredibly easy and convenient. The few times I needed to call and ask a question a human answered the phone each time. Outdoor easy access but at the same time you can get climate control, which was perfect for my needs. Would recommend 10/10

Finding and renting trusted self-storage facilities in Kittery, Maine is now easier through MoversCorp. Compare options and rent storage near you with just a few clicks. We provide the convenience of reserving affordable storage units online or by phone. No credit card or long-term contract is required. Consider us as your solution for finding and reserving a storage facility throughout Maine, including options for mini storage units and storage containers to suit a variety of needs. The cheapest storage unit in your area may not always be the best choice. Please consider the following factors when selecting a storage unit in Kittery, Maine.
- Monthly rates are based on features such as 24/7 access, climate control, facility security, location, and overall demand in your area.
- For household goods, the most common storage unit sizes are 5x5, 5x10, 10x10, and 10X15. For added flexibility, some companies also offer portable mini storage units for rent for temporary residential use that can be delivered to your property or hauled by you for on-site storage.
- Many facilities offer larger unit sizes for commercial and business storage, like 10x20 or 10x30. These sizes are ideal for storing office equipment, inventory, or business records. These sizes can also accommodate vehicles, making them a great option for car storage.
- Most storage facilities require insurance for stored items. If you don’t have your own policy, you may need to buy one through the facility, adding about $15 to $50 to your storage rental cost each month. Some places also charge a refundable deposit or an administrative fee when you move in. Always ask about these costs and refund conditions before signing a lease.
- Storage facilities with flexible leases allow you to rent on a month-to-month basis. Be aware that storage unit price increases are common. Many customers say their rates go up after a few months, sometimes more than once a year. Since storage rentals are month-to-month, facilities can raise prices with proper notice. Ask about potential rate increases before committing to a unit.
- The monthly rent will also depend on whether a facility offers climate-controlled units or only drive-up units. Climate-controlled units cost more than drive-up units or storage containers.
- Most locations have digital keypad access, which provides you with your personal access code. Check with the office for availability.
- Consider drive-up access for easier loading and unloading, especially for heavy or bulky items.
- Some facilities may provide extra room or rental space for public use, such as areas for organizing or handling your stored items. Contact the property manager to confirm availability.
- Check for online reviews and recommendations. Local experts can guide renters to facilities that stay available and maintain reliable service during peak demand.
- Ask the office about the preventive security measures for safeguarding the location. Facilities with experienced staff often maintain stronger daily oversight by monitoring access logs and responding quickly to tenant concerns.
Are there free storage deals in Kittery, Maine?
Many companies offer promotions for new customers, such as a free first month. Search by your zip code or distance to locate cheap storage units that come with the first month free and other decent storage discounts. Take advantage of specials if you're a first-time renter.
How do I find the cheapest storage in Kittery?
You can sort by price, from low to high, to find affordable options on our website. Away from the city center, you have a better chance of finding inexpensive storage rental solutions. The facility's size and amenities affect the monthly price.
What is the difference between an indoor and outdoor unit?
You have easy access to your unit when it is an outdoor unit. If the unit is indoors, you must first enter the building to get to it.
What is the difference between office hours and gate hours?
The property's operating hours are during office hours. The store manager will be on duty to help you with your questions. If you have questions or need help outside these hours, look up the property's phone number to contact the leasing office directly. The gate hours determine when you can enter the property and use your unit.
Many Kittery residents use storage units for seasonal items like boats and outdoor gear because the town is close to the Atlantic Ocean and popular boating areas. Some facilities near the Piscataqua River offer specialized boat storage.
Because of its coastal location, Kittery has high humidity levels, especially in the summer. If you're storing sensitive items like wooden furniture or electronics, it's a good idea to use a climate-controlled unit to prevent mold and moisture damage. Many Kittery facilities, especially those serving local businesses, offer extended gate hours for busy schedules and early access for fishermen and marine workers.
Storage demand fluctuates by season because of the coastal economy and tourism-related population changes, especially in late spring and early fall. Areas closer to Route 1 and the Badgers Island corridor face more competition for storage access because of heavy traffic and their proximity to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard commuting routes. Units farther inland near the Eliot town line often see less congestion during peak summer travel periods.
Commercial storage demand in Kittery closely tracks maritime trades, logistics support, and small-scale marine services near the riverfront and shipyard-adjacent areas. Businesses that serve the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard often need temporary equipment or records storage because of limited space inside secured facilities. Larger units are commonly used for off-season vehicle and trailer storage linked to regional fishing and boating activity.
