No push carts on property. Was told when checking in they are on order and no timeline to getting new. My unit is on the third floor When asked where they go was told, ‘they get stolen. Customers walk off or store them in their unit’. Why don’t they retrieve them? I don’t feel my belongings will be safe here if they don’t care for their own property.

I like the fact that each entry point you have to put your access code to go thru (except the business office), like the gate and entrance to the building and into where the actual units are! This location’s locks are MUCH safer than locks I’ve seen in the past (round pad lock w/key), you have to drill the lock out before breaking in. Now about the staff, Christine was amazing and helpful when I came in to sight the paperwork. Then I had to go into the office because I left my card with all the credentials to be able to enter the gate in the building and the manger (I think she was management) was very nice and accommodating. And the most SHOCKING for me was the fact she was cleaning the bathrooms the clientele use, which was impressive since there were 2 other employees at that time. Then I decided I was going to pay Feb rent and spoke to another young lady (she told me her name, grrrr I don’t remember) she was helpful and accommodating as well! I went to dropped off more stuff yesterday and once again the bathrooms were spotless and the facility was clean!

Of all storage locations I have used in Houston, Public Storage on Hempstead is by far the most secure and the cleanest. The move in was smooth and contactless, which is much appreciated during the covid times. I signed up for the unit via SpareFoot and finished enrolling after receiving an email from Public Storage directly. Once I arrived at the storage, my security code was set up and ready to go, and my key and lock were inside the storage unit. The Hempstead storage facility has extra security, compared to the other storages I have used. You have to use the code to get in and out of the gate, to get inside the building, and to go up and down the elevator. There are very clean bathrooms on the first floor. All of the units are air conditioned. The advantage of using Spare Foot was in the availability of units. I wanted specifically a 10 x 5' unit. Public Storage website showed no availability for this type (only 5 x 10' units), while Spare Foot did show them available.

All 4 words in the title have been experienced during my renting space with PS. I'll start with the PS location 14050 NW Freeway Houston Tx 77040. The manager there Christina is A-1 professional however the property needs to be condemned and shut down and leveled. Why? Because the locations next to white oak bayou. Though when flooding occurs or even just a quick drizzle of rain the storage units remain dry,but the plumbing backs up causing human feces into all drives leading up to storage units. Rats rats & more rats. There's a row of units at back of this location which is rat infested. On any given day a client can open the garage door style doors on units and see,smell,& hear multiple baby rats crying or whatever noises baby rats make or see multiple rat tails just above steel I beams at top of units from front to back or smell rat before a unit doors opened or see the rat feces scattered all over the unit floors or see what was once intact and unmolested storage items/content now chewed up and torn into a millions of small fragments reduced to nothing more than stinky disease saturated shreds. The homeless people who've set up camp directly behind the PS NW Freeway location don't help the PS hired pest control contractors At all only making matters worse because they throw every bit of trash against the back wall of the last row of storage units 24/7. Think about it? Roughly a hundred homeless people live in the woods and eat,sleep,play,argue,fight,complain,exist against and behind this location some of whom their selves at an adult video store located within walking distance of this location. PS says law enfor has been contacted but obviously nothing's been done concerning this matter. The electricity in the same last row is suspect at best. The breaker boxes for this last row are broken,rusted,& need to be replaced. Live Electrical wires insulation stripped are dangling everywhere,the breaker switches are rusted and broken exposing electricity shorts that if dark enough show sparks arcing in all directions. I can go on and on and on. My storage unit was broken into and completely robbed of every single item worth in excess of $10,000.00 but PS storage unit insurance caps at $5000 therefore leaving me sol.

What size storage unit do I need?


5' x 5' Storage Unit
It is approximately 25 square feet of space. This size typically holds the contents of one room or large home closet. They are an excellent size to store seasonal items, garden tools, clothes, office supplies, suitcases and miscellaneous boxes.

5' x 10' Storage Unit

It is approximately 50 square feet of space. This size typically holds the contents of one room or office. You can store small amounts of furniture, chairs, mattress, kitchen appliances, and boxes.

5' x 15' Storage Unit

It is approximately 75 square feet of space. This type of unit is good for the contents of a one-bedroom apartment with major appliances.

10' x 10' Storage Unit
It is approximately 100 square feet of space and about the size of a standard one-car garage. Holds furnishings of a one or small two-bedroom apartment with major appliances.

10' x 15' Storage Unit

What is the height of the storage units?

Storage units are approximately 8 feet high.


Do I need to rent a climate controlled unit?

If you have delicate items such as musical instruments, computers, pictures, antique wood furniture, it is recommended to select a climate controlled unit. Climate controlled storage units protect against rust, corrosion, mold, cracking, and warping.


What’s the difference between an indoor and an outdoor unit?An outdoor storage unit is one that has a direct access and usually drive-up accessible. An indoor unit is located within the building.


What items can't be put in a storage unit?

Most storage facilities will not let you store firearms, perishable items, liquids, illegal drugs, flammable and hazardous materials, live animals or plants.


Are my items insured while being in a storage unit?

You are responsible for the items that you store. Storage facility's insurance provides protection for the location that houses the storage units and not the contents of individual storage units. If your homeowner insurance doesn't cover your items, usually the facility manager will help you sign up with an insurance provider.


Can I use my renters insurance for a storage unit?

Anything your renter's insurance policy covers under usual conditions would be covered in your storage unit. Usually, renters insurance will cover items in a unit up to 10% of your policy limits, but the coverage does not include natural disasters. However, there may be exceptions to this, check with your insurance company to see if you're covered.


What do I need to bring with me when to rent a unit?

You will need a government-issued photo ID(driver’s license, state ID or passport) to complete your storage unit rental agreement.


Can I access my unit anytime I want?

Most storage locations are open 365 days a year, but access hours may vary. During access hours, usually between 6am – 10pm seven days a week, you can access your unit by using your individual gate code. During office hours, the company employees are available to answer questions and provide on-site support.


How long can I rent a unit?

Most rental contracts are month-to-month agreements and billed in one-month increments. No long-term lease is required unless the customer requests otherwise.
