I was annoyed that the units close at 6pm and there isn't much communication with the renter that those hours are in place. Otherwise, great experience!

I had a storage space in Manhattan that I finally outgrew. I plan on moving to Brooklyn so I reserved a space online at Public Storage that was almost twice the space and only a little more expensive than I was already paying. I went to physically inspect the space I had reserved. It was clean and ready to use. The person at the desk, Brian, was helpful and efficient. Our whole interaction was perfectly professional without feeling like just another account. I signed on with confidence because of our interaction.

Loved my check-in and thoroughly enjoy the managers at this property. But one elevator is broken and the second is down periodically throughout the day and some of the key boxes were malfunctioning. Added 1 hour to my move. That was a significant cost out of my pocket. My movers and I spent 23 minutes (I timed it) on floor 4 waiting for the elevator. That does NOT include waiting to get up and back down on other occasions (each totaled between 5 - 10 minutes. Unacceptable when paying almost $200/month. Please fix this asap! Otherwise, the managers (who are powerless in this situation - I know its building management issues) are wonderful and did their best to accommodate the issues! 5 stars to them!

I rented a unit in the old part of the building and the elevator was not working. i have visited the unit four times in two months and the elevator is still not working. at all times i've had to haul my boxes up and down the stairs. i am a 60 year old lady and this was unnecessary. had they told me about the elevator i would have found another place. never a chance to park on the ramp or get a cart to transport. real bad service. never again.

The process is really easy. You call the main phone number and let them know which location you are interested in using, the customer service person give info of how to make reservations, rates and the direct number for the specific location. Right after I got off the phone with the main phone #, the manager of the branch calls and gives more specific info and makes a reservation for you to come in. he even gave me directions on how to get there by train. When I got there, which was early, Daina showed me the storage units. they were friendly, went over the process. I was able to book the unit. Daina and one other person (a guy, can't remember his name) were helpful. It's required to have insurance - I wasn't expecting that but I guess that makes sense since you have a bunch of stuff there. The space is located in a modern building with two large elevators, a great lighting system, a smooth concrete floor, and most important all is very clean. I also liked the courtesy of the employees. The schedule of the access hours is fine, but an additional hour in the morning could be excellent...and then I could give six stars!

Happy with the price, customer service and most importantly the product. Ideally, the location would fit a true NYC lifestyle and have 24/7 access but for the location, price and convenience it was worth the tradeoff.

Do I need to rent a climate controlled unit?

If you have delicate items such as musical instruments, computers, pictures, antique wood furniture, it is recommended to select a climate controlled unit. Climate controlled storage units protect against rust, corrosion, mold, cracking, and warping.

What’s the difference between an indoor and an outdoor unit?An outdoor storage unit is one that has a direct access and usually drive-up accessible. An indoor unit is located within the building.

What items can't be put in a storage unit?

Most storage facilities will not let you store firearms, perishable items, liquids, illegal drugs, flammable and hazardous materials, live animals or plants.

Are my items insured while being in a storage unit?

You are responsible for the items that you store. Storage facility's insurance provides protection for the location that houses the storage units and not the contents of individual storage units. If your homeowner insurance doesn't cover your items, usually the facility manager will help you sign up with an insurance provider.

Can I use my renters insurance for a storage unit?

Anything your renter's insurance policy covers under usual conditions would be covered in your storage unit. Usually, renters insurance will cover items in a unit up to 10% of your policy limits, but the coverage does not include natural disasters. However, there may be exceptions to this, check with your insurance company to see if you're covered.

What do I need to bring with me when to rent a unit?

You will need a government-issued photo ID(driver’s license, state ID or passport) to complete your storage unit rental agreement.

Can I access my unit anytime I want?

Most storage locations are open 365 days a year, but access hours may vary. During access hours, usually between 6am – 10pm seven days a week, you can access your unit by using your individual gate code. During office hours, the company employees are available to answer questions and provide on-site support.

How long can I rent a unit?

Most rental contracts are month-to-month agreements and billed in one-month increments. No long-term lease is required unless the customer requests otherwise.
