I reserved a 10x10 unit online and scheduled my move in date. It was said to be a ground floor unit at a price if $164. When the day of my move in arrived I was informed that there was only one unit left at the facility, it was on the second floor, and it was $180 a month. Almost $170 more a year. When I was understandably upset that the unit I reserved apparently didn’t exist I was told that the reservation I made (the same one that literally every thing I received referred to as my “move in date.”) wasn’t *actually* a reservation for a storage unit, but only to “look at a storage unit” and it didn’t guarantee me the pricing or unit I reserved. Literally nothing in any of the emails or communication I received up until that point indicated any of this. According to the manager on duty because the reservation doesn’t actually reserve, well, anything apparently, that last unit could had been rented earlier that day and I would have had no unit at all to move into on my scheduled “move in day.” This is a disgraceful and very clearly intentionally misleading business practice. When you reserve a rental car, are you making a reservation to “look at” a car? NO! When you reserve a hotel room, are you making a reservation to “look at” a hotel room? NO! And nothing about any of the process, including referring to my reservation date as my “move in date” indicates anything other than that I reserved a specific space, at a specific rate, that would be move in ready on that day. Honestly what if they had rented out that last unit and I showed up to my “move in” day with a u-haul full of belongings only to be told that there were no more units. Absolutely terrible business practices and I feel like I was intentionally misled.

The customer service was what made my experience amazing at public storage. Diana showed me the unit and discussed what would be finically realistic for me. She made sure my move in day would be easier by having proper packing and boxing. Public storage was the easiest part of my moving experience.

The elevators are old and slow to respond/slow to move in general. The automatic door was broken as well and had to keep being pushed open which was more of a pain then it sounds like when moving lots of stuff through it. Mattress bag price was double what I payed at uhaul for the same quality product. Everything else was good. Project manager was friendly and helpful

Do I need to rent a climate controlled unit?

If you have delicate items such as musical instruments, computers, pictures, antique wood furniture, it is recommended to select a climate controlled unit. Climate controlled storage units protect against rust, corrosion, mold, cracking, and warping.

What’s the difference between an indoor and an outdoor unit?An outdoor storage unit is one that has a direct access and usually drive-up accessible. An indoor unit is located within the building.

What items can't be put in a storage unit?

Most storage facilities will not let you store firearms, perishable items, liquids, illegal drugs, flammable and hazardous materials, live animals or plants.

Are my items insured while being in a storage unit?

You are responsible for the items that you store. Storage facility's insurance provides protection for the location that houses the storage units and not the contents of individual storage units. If your homeowner insurance doesn't cover your items, usually the facility manager will help you sign up with an insurance provider.

Can I use my renters insurance for a storage unit?

Anything your renter's insurance policy covers under usual conditions would be covered in your storage unit. Usually, renters insurance will cover items in a unit up to 10% of your policy limits, but the coverage does not include natural disasters. However, there may be exceptions to this, check with your insurance company to see if you're covered.

What do I need to bring with me when to rent a unit?

You will need a government-issued photo ID(driver’s license, state ID or passport) to complete your storage unit rental agreement.

Can I access my unit anytime I want?

Most storage locations are open 365 days a year, but access hours may vary. During access hours, usually between 6am – 10pm seven days a week, you can access your unit by using your individual gate code. During office hours, the company employees are available to answer questions and provide on-site support.

How long can I rent a unit?

Most rental contracts are month-to-month agreements and billed in one-month increments. No long-term lease is required unless the customer requests otherwise.
